1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how Skillvora ("Skillvora", "we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and within our web-based dashboard (together, the "Platform"), and the choices available to you in relation to them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains more broadly how we collect, use and protect personal data.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website or use a web application. They are widely used to make websites and applications work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, to keep you securely logged in, and to help us understand how our Platform is used so that we can improve it. Similar technologies, such as local storage, session storage, pixels and tracking scripts, work in comparable ways and are covered by this Policy alongside traditional cookies.
Because Skillvora is a business management platform that customers log into and use throughout their working day — rather than a simple content website — cookies play a particularly important role in keeping your session secure, remembering your dashboard preferences, and ensuring that sensitive CRM, project, HR and financial data is only accessible to properly authenticated users. This Policy explains, in detail, what we use, why we use it, and how you can manage your preferences.
2. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are created when your browser loads a website or web application that uses them. The website sends information to your browser, which creates a small text file. Every time you return to that website, or navigate between pages within it, your browser sends the file back, allowing the website to recognise your device and respond accordingly — for example, keeping you logged in as you move between the CRM, project management, HR and financial modules of your Skillvora dashboard.
Technically, a cookie is a simple piece of data: typically a name, a value, and a set of attributes controlling how and where it is used, such as its expiry date, the domain it is associated with, and whether it can only be transmitted over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Modern browsers also enforce attributes such as "SameSite", which restrict when a cookie is sent along with requests to other websites, helping to reduce certain categories of security risk. Where we set cookies ourselves, we configure these attributes in line with current browser security recommendations, appropriate to each cookie's purpose.
2.1 First-Party and Third-Party Cookies
First-party cookies are set directly by Skillvora, from the domain you are visiting (for example, our own dashboard domain). Third-party cookies are set by a domain other than the one you are visiting — typically because we have embedded a third-party service, such as Stripe for payment processing or an analytics provider, within our Platform. Third-party cookies are governed both by this Policy and by the relevant third party's own cookie and privacy policies. Many modern browsers place additional restrictions on third-party cookies by default, and some are phasing them out entirely in favour of alternative technologies; where this affects the availability of a feature described in this Policy, we will update the Policy accordingly.
2.2 Session and Persistent Cookies
Session cookies are temporary and are deleted automatically when you close your browser; they are commonly used to keep you logged in during a single visit to the dashboard, or to hold temporary state while you complete a multi-step process such as setting up a new project. Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period, or until you delete them, and are used for purposes such as remembering your login across visits (where you choose a "remember me" style option), recognising a returning visitor for analytics purposes, or storing your saved cookie consent preferences so that you are not asked to make the same choice on every visit.
2.3 Similar Technologies
In addition to cookies, we and our service providers may use related technologies that serve a similar purpose:
- Local storage and session storage — browser-based storage mechanisms used by modern web applications like Skillvora's dashboard to store data locally on your device, often to improve performance and reduce the need to repeatedly request the same data from our servers. These are particularly relevant to a data-heavy dashboard application like Skillvora, where local storage may be used to cache recently viewed records or in-progress form data.
- Pixels and web beacons — small transparent images used, for example, in emails, to help us understand whether an email has been opened or a link has been clicked, supporting our understanding of how effectively we are communicating with Customers about product updates or billing matters.
- Software development kits (SDKs) — code embedded in mobile or web applications that can collect similar information to cookies for functionality or analytics purposes, relevant if Skillvora offers or later introduces a dedicated mobile application.
- Fingerprinting-adjacent technical signals — certain technical information (such as browser and device configuration) may be used, in a limited way, to support fraud prevention and account security, distinct from broader cross-site tracking; we do not use this information to build advertising profiles.
For simplicity, this Policy refers to all of these technologies collectively as "cookies" unless otherwise specified.
3. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for a range of purposes connected to operating, securing and improving the Platform. Broadly, these fall into the following categories, each of which is explained in more detail in the sections that follow: strictly necessary cookies, functional cookies, analytics and performance cookies, and (where applicable) marketing and advertising cookies.
We do not use cookies to collect information that directly identifies you by name unless you have provided that information to us separately (for example, by creating an account), and we do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about individuals outside of the ordinary operation of our own website analytics, save as described in Section 7 (Marketing and Advertising Cookies), which will only apply where relevant consent has been obtained.
4. Strictly Necessary Cookies
Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions you take, such as logging in, setting your privacy preferences, or navigating between pages of the dashboard. Because these cookies are essential to delivering the service you have requested, we do not need to obtain your consent to use them, in accordance with applicable law (including PECR), although we are still transparent about what they do.
Strictly necessary cookies within Skillvora fall broadly into three functional groups: authentication and session management (keeping you securely signed in), security (protecting your account and data from common web threats), and infrastructure (helping our systems route and process your requests reliably). Because Skillvora's dashboard holds commercially sensitive CRM, project, HR and financial data, we consider robust session and security cookies to be a core part of protecting our Customers, not an optional convenience.

Because these cookies are necessary for the Platform to operate securely, disabling them through your browser settings is likely to prevent you from logging in, or from using core dashboard functionality, and we would not be able to guarantee the security of your account or data if they were disabled. If you use shared or public devices to access Skillvora, we recommend logging out fully at the end of your session and avoiding persistent "remember me" style cookies, to reduce the risk of another person accessing your account.
5. Functional Cookies
Functional cookies allow the Platform to remember choices you make and provide enhanced, more personalised features. For example, they may remember which dashboard view you last used, your preferred display settings, or the state of a multi-step process such as invoice creation.

Where functional cookies are not strictly necessary for the Platform to work, we will seek your consent before setting them, in line with the consent mechanism described in Section 9. If you choose not to consent, certain conveniences (such as remembered preferences) may not be available, but the core functionality of the Platform will remain accessible.
6. Analytics and Performance Cookies
Analytics and performance cookies help us understand how visitors and Customers use our website and dashboard — for example, which pages are visited most often, how long users spend on particular features, and whether users encounter errors. This information helps us identify and fix technical issues, and prioritise improvements to the parts of the Platform that matter most to our Customers.
For a product like Skillvora, analytics data is particularly valuable in understanding which of the four core modules — CRM, project management, HR administration, and financial record-keeping — are used most heavily by different types of Customer, so that future development effort is directed where it will have the greatest impact. Analytics data also helps us identify where users encounter friction, such as abandoning a multi-step process like invoice creation partway through, so that we can simplify the experience.

We may use a third-party analytics provider (such as a website or product analytics tool) to help us collect and interpret this information. Where we do, that provider processes data on our behalf, under contractual terms requiring them to protect it appropriately and not to use it for their own independent purposes. Analytics cookies are not strictly necessary for the Platform to function, and we will only set them with your consent, as described in Section 9, save to the extent limited, first-party analytics may be treated as exempt from consent requirements under applicable guidance from the UK Information Commissioner's Office where privacy risk is low; where we rely on any such exemption, we will keep this under review.
Where analytics data is aggregated and anonymised in a way that no individual can reasonably be identified from it, we may retain and use it for longer-term trend analysis, benchmarking product usage over time, and informing our product roadmap, without that aggregated data being treated as personal data.
7. Marketing and Advertising Cookies
Skillvora's core Platform is a paid, login-based business tool rather than an advertising-funded consumer website, and we do not currently run third-party advertising on the dashboard itself. However, our public-facing marketing website may, from time to time, use marketing or advertising-related cookies for purposes such as:
- Measuring the effectiveness of our own marketing campaigns, so we can understand which channels bring visitors to our website.
- Enabling retargeting or remarketing, where you may see a Skillvora advertisement on another website after visiting ours, delivered by a third-party advertising network.
- Tracking conversions from marketing campaigns to sign-ups, to help us understand and improve our marketing spend.

These cookies are never strictly necessary and will only be set with your explicit consent, obtained through the cookie banner or preference centre described in Section 9. You can withdraw consent to marketing cookies at any time without affecting your ability to use the Skillvora Platform itself, since these cookies relate to our public marketing website rather than to the logged-in dashboard experience.
8. Third-Party Services and Their Cookies
Certain features of the Platform rely on third-party services, which may set their own cookies as part of providing that functionality. Where we introduce a new third-party service that sets cookies, we will update this Policy and, where required, our cookie consent tool, before that service becomes active for visitors and Customers who have not consented to the relevant category. The most significant third-party service currently integrated into the Platform is Stripe, our payment processor.
8.1 Stripe
Stripe, which processes subscription payments (including card payments and Bacs Direct Debit) on our behalf, may set cookies on the payment pages of the Platform to support fraud prevention, secure processing, and compliance with card network requirements. These cookies are set and controlled by Stripe under its own cookie and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review at Stripe's website. Because these cookies are integral to processing your payment securely, they are generally treated as strictly necessary to complete a transaction you have requested. Stripe's use of cookies may also support broader fraud-prevention efforts across the many merchants it serves, which sits outside Skillvora's direct control; Stripe's own policies explain this in more detail.
8.2 Other Embedded Services
From time to time, we may embed other third-party tools within the Platform — for example, a customer support chat widget, a help-centre search tool, a scheduling tool for support calls, or a document e-signature tool used in connection with the HR module's onboarding features. Where these tools set their own cookies, we will identify them in our cookie preference centre where practicable, and their use of your data will also be governed by their own privacy and cookie policies, in addition to this Policy.
8.3 Links to Other Websites
Our website and communications may contain links to third-party websites, such as a link to Stripe's own website, a partner integration, or an article referenced in our help documentation. If you follow such a link, please note that those websites have their own cookie and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of websites we do not control. We recommend reviewing the cookie and privacy policy of any third-party website you visit, whether reached via a link on our Platform or otherwise.
8.4 Choosing and Reviewing Our Third-Party Providers
Before integrating a new third-party service that would set cookies on the Platform, we consider that provider's own privacy and security practices, including whether they offer appropriate contractual protections and, where relevant, adequate safeguards for any international transfer of data. We periodically review our existing third-party integrations as part of maintaining this Policy, and will remove or replace a cookie-setting integration where it is no longer necessary for the operation of the Platform.
9. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have a number of ways to control and manage cookies, both through tools we provide and through your own browser or device settings. We believe cookie management should be straightforward and genuinely reversible, and we design our consent tools with that in mind.
9.1 Our Cookie Consent Tool
On your first visit to our website, and periodically thereafter, we will present a cookie banner or preference centre allowing you to accept or reject non-essential cookies (functional, analytics and marketing cookies), and to review a summary of the categories described in this Policy. You can change your preferences at any time by accessing the cookie preference centre, typically available via a link in the website footer.
- Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off through this tool, because the Platform cannot function securely without them.
- Functional, analytics and marketing cookies can be switched on or off individually, or by category, according to your preferences.
- Your saved preferences will be remembered for future visits, using the cookie consent preference cookie described in Section 4, until you choose to update them or clear your browser data.
- Rejecting a category of cookie is always as easy as accepting it — we do not use design patterns (such as making "accept all" more prominent than "reject all") intended to pressure you into a particular choice, in line with regulatory expectations for fair consent.
9.2 Browser Controls
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings, including the ability to view which cookies are stored on your device, delete some or all cookies, and block cookies from being set in future, either generally or for specific websites. Because the process differs between browsers, we recommend consulting your browser's help documentation for detailed instructions. Common browsers with cookie management options include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
- In most Chromium-based browsers (such as Chrome and Edge), cookie settings can typically be found under Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Cookies and other site data.
- In Firefox, cookie settings can typically be found under Settings, then Privacy & Security, under the Cookies and Site Data section.
- In Safari, cookie settings can typically be found under Preferences, then the Privacy tab.
- On mobile devices, cookie and tracking controls are usually found within the browser app's own settings menu, and may also interact with device-level privacy settings described in Section 9.3.
Please note that if you block or delete strictly necessary cookies, you are likely to find that some or all of the Platform — including the ability to log in and access your dashboard — no longer works correctly, since these cookies are essential to maintaining a secure, authenticated session. If you experience login or dashboard issues after changing your browser's cookie settings, restoring default cookie permissions for our domain is usually the quickest way to resolve this.
9.3 Device and Mobile Settings
If you access the Platform via a mobile browser, your device's operating system may offer additional privacy controls, such as options to limit ad tracking or clear browsing data, in addition to the controls available within the mobile browser itself. If Skillvora offers a dedicated mobile application in future, equivalent controls relevant to that application (such as permissions and tracking settings) will be described in an updated version of this Policy.
9.4 Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal that you can enable to indicate you do not wish to be tracked across websites. There is not yet a common industry standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and our Platform does not currently change its behaviour in response to a DNT signal; instead, we rely on the consent choices you make through our cookie preference tool as described in Section 9.1.
9.5 Consequences of Disabling Cookies
Disabling or restricting cookies can affect your experience of the Platform in different ways depending on the category involved. Disabling strictly necessary cookies will generally prevent you from logging in or using the dashboard at all. Disabling functional cookies means preferences such as your preferred layout or language will not be remembered between visits, requiring you to reselect them each time. Disabling analytics cookies has no effect on your ability to use the Platform, but means your usage will not contribute to the aggregate data we use to improve it. Disabling marketing cookies has no effect on your ability to use the Platform, and simply means you may see less relevant advertising, or none at all, from us on other websites.
10. Legal Basis for Using Cookies
Where cookies are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested (such as logging in to your dashboard, or processing a payment you have initiated), we rely on the fact that your consent is not required for these under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), because they are necessary for the provision of an information society service you have explicitly requested.
For all other cookies — including functional, analytics, and marketing/advertising cookies — we rely on your consent, obtained through the cookie banner or preference centre described in Section 9, before those cookies are set. Where cookies involve the processing of personal data (for example, an analytics identifier that can be linked back to your account), our processing of that personal data is additionally governed by UK GDPR, and our lawful basis for that processing is your consent, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
You are free to withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies at any time, with the same ease with which it was given, by returning to our cookie preference centre or adjusting your browser settings. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal, and, save for strictly necessary cookies, will not prevent you from continuing to use the Platform.
11. Cookies Within the Logged-In Dashboard vs. Our Public Website
It is worth distinguishing between cookies used on our public-facing marketing website (which visitors may browse without an account) and cookies used within the logged-in Skillvora dashboard itself (which requires an active subscription and authenticated account).
- On our public website, cookies are primarily used for essential website functionality, analytics to understand visitor behaviour, and, where consented to, marketing and advertising purposes as described in Section 7.
- Within the logged-in dashboard, cookies (and similar technologies such as local storage) are primarily strictly necessary or functional in nature — supporting secure authentication, session management, and the smooth operation of features across the CRM, project management, HR and financial modules. We do not use the logged-in dashboard environment for third-party advertising cookies.
- Some analytics cookies may operate across both the public website and the logged-in dashboard, to help us understand the full journey from initial visit through to active platform use, always subject to the consent and transparency requirements described in this Policy.
12. Data Collected Through Cookies and How It Is Used
The information collected through cookies typically includes technical identifiers (such as a randomly generated cookie ID), timestamps, pages or dashboard sections visited, actions taken (such as button clicks or form submissions), device and browser type, and, where applicable, an anonymised or pseudonymised analytics identifier. Where cookie data is linked to your Skillvora account (for example, an authentication cookie), it is used in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which explains our fuller approach to account, billing and usage data.
We do not use cookie data to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on individuals. Aggregate analytics data derived from cookies is generally used at a statistical level — for example, understanding that a particular dashboard feature is used by a certain percentage of active accounts — rather than to build detailed individual profiles for purposes unrelated to operating and improving the Platform.
We apply data minimisation principles to our use of cookies: we aim to collect only the information reasonably necessary for the specific purpose described for each cookie category, and we periodically review our cookie usage to identify and remove cookies that are no longer needed, are duplicative, or whose original purpose no longer applies as the Platform evolves. Where a third-party service we use changes its own cookie practices, we will update this Policy to reflect that change and, where required, seek fresh consent.
12.1 Special Category and Sensitive Data
We do not use cookies to intentionally collect special category data (such as data revealing health, religious belief, or trade union membership) about visitors to our website. Because Customers may enter a wide range of business data — including, in some cases, HR-related information about their own employees — into the logged-in dashboard, we draw a clear distinction between that Customer Data (governed by our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions, and entered voluntarily by the Customer for their own business purposes) and the cookie-level technical data described in this Policy, which relates to how the Platform is accessed and used, not to the substantive business records stored within it.
13. International Data Transfers via Cookies
Where a cookie is set by a third-party service provider based outside the UK or European Economic Area (for example, an international analytics or payment provider), any personal data collected through that cookie may be transferred to, and processed in, that other country. Where this occurs, we take steps to ensure an adequate level of protection is in place, consistent with the approach described in our Privacy Policy, such as reliance on UK adequacy regulations or appropriate contractual safeguards including the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as adapted for UK use.
14. Retention of Cookie Data
Different cookies are retained for different periods, as indicated in the tables throughout this Policy, ranging from the duration of a single browser session up to a maximum of around 24 months for certain analytics cookies. We periodically review the cookies in use on the Platform and remove or adjust the retention period of cookies that are no longer necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. Where cookie data is linked to personal data held about your account, its retention is also subject to the data retention principles set out in our Privacy Policy.
15. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies and similar technologies we use, changes to our website or dashboard, or changes in applicable law. Where changes are material — for example, the introduction of a new category of cookie, or a new third-party service — we will provide reasonable notice, such as through an updated cookie banner requesting fresh consent where required, or an in-app notification. The "Last updated" date at the top of this Policy indicates when it was last revised, and we encourage you to review it periodically.
16. Relationship to Our Other Policies
This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains more broadly how we collect, use, share and protect personal data, including data collected through cookies once it is linked to an identifiable individual. It should also be read alongside our Terms and Conditions, which govern your use of the Platform generally, and our Refund Policy, which explains how refunds work for Skillvora subscriptions. Where this Cookie Policy addresses a topic (such as the specific technologies used to keep you logged in) in more detail than our Privacy Policy, this Policy provides that additional, cookie-specific detail; where there is any inconsistency between the two on the underlying data protection principles that apply, our Privacy Policy will govern.
